Jodey C. Arrington
Mr. Jodey Arrington was named Vice Chancellor for Research, Commercialization and Federal Relations in September 2011 and is responsible for the System’s oversight and coordination of research, as well as federal relations and technology commercialization at each component institution of the Texas Tech University System (TTUS).
In addition to bringing the universities’ technology and innovations to the marketplace, the office’s expanded duties will include helping secure public and private research funding through federal and corporate relations.
Previously, Mr. Arrington served as the Chief of Staff of TTUS Chancellor Kent Hance, operating as the Chancellor’s primary liaison to the vice chancellors and senior administrators of the component institutions.
In January 2001, Mr. Arrington was appointed as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush and Associate Director for Presidential Personnel. While working at the White House, he was responsible for advising the President on the selection of executives within the federal government. Prior to that, Mr. Arrington served four years in the Texas Governor’s Office as an adviser on appointments to state boards and commissions.
From 2001 through 2005, Mr. Arrington worked as Chief of Staff to Donald Powell, the 18th Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. As Chief of Staff, he worked closely with Chairman Powell to develop and implement numerous initiatives involving banking policy, financial literacy and operational performance and efficiencies.
In November 2005, Mr. Arrington was selected to serve as the Deputy Federal Coordinator of Gulf Coast Rebuilding. Created by executive order in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, this office was charged with coordinating the federal, state, and local long-term rebuilding plan for the Gulf Coast region. As chief of operations, Mr. Arrington worked closely with the Federal Coordinator to develop rebuilding policies and ensure effective and fiscally responsible assistance on behalf of the federal government.
Mr. Arrington has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas Tech University. He also holds a certificate in international business management from the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. He and his wife, Anne, currently live in Lubbock, Texas.
