Mike Sanders

John Michael Sanders

Mr. Mike Sanders, Vice Chancellor for Governmental Relations, first came on as Director of Public Affairs at Texas Tech University on September 17, 1975.  Mr. Sanders was also an Assistant Professor, Texas Tech University, College of Business,  1970-1975; Area Coordinator, Business Law, 1973-1975; Sponsorship of Student Organizations – Alpha Kappa Psi, Delta Tau Delta; and in private law practice from 1971-1975.

As Vice Chancellor, Mr. Sanders oversees the development and implementation of governmental relations programs for Texas Tech University System, Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Angelo State University.  Under his leadership, the office has been designated by the Chancellor as the representative of the Texas Tech University System in all matters relating to external communications with governmental entities.  The office is focused on working with the Texas Tech components to accomplish their legislative priorities as approved by the Board of Regents.  For each institution, the key priorities relate to the General Appropriations bill.

Mr. Sanders is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Lubbock County Bar Association and NASULGC Research Group (National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges).

Mr. Sanders received the B.A. from Abilene Christian College in 1966 and the J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1970.  Mr. Sanders also practiced law from 1971-1975 and was Director of Lubbock County Legal Aid from 1971-1974.
