In alignment with DIR's strategic direction on efficiency in the management and consolidation of IT resources, Texas Tech University (TTU) and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) have established three IT departments at the Texas Tech University System level to facilitate IT related consolidations and collaborations. These three departments are Communications Services, Information Systems, and Technology Operations and Systems Management (TOSM).
Communication Services provides integrated voice communication systems for both TTU and TTUHSC, including telephone services equipment and repair, cellular voice and data service, long distance calling cards, and conference calling. In providing these services to both institutions through a single department, Texas Tech is positioned to negotiate the best possible rates for vendor supplied services and equipment because of the combined overall volume of TTU and TTUHSC.
Information Systems provides application design, development, and maintenance for both in-house and vendor written systems that are used by both TTU and TTUHSC. These shared systems are reported in Texas Tech University's Strategic Plan, and perform mission-critical functions for both institutions. By using shared systems for Texas Tech's core business areas, Tech has eliminated software redundancy and the costs associated with duplicate licenses, hardware platforms, recurring hardware and software maintenance fees, and maintenance of the software programs. Texas Tech's shared systems are:
- TechFIM (Accounting System)
- ePO (Electronic Purchase Order System)
- TechPAY (Payroll System)
- TecHRIS (Human Resources Information System)
- HRPAF (Electronic Personnel Action Form System)
- eBIO (Employee Biographic Data System)
- Time Capture (Employee Vacation/Sick Leave Summary System)
- TechSIS (Student Information System)
- TechFILE (Document Imaging System)
- Budget (Budget System)
- Budget Prep (Annual Budget Prep System)
- FP&C (Facilities, Planning and Construction System)
- Departmental Directory
- Raider Roster
TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND
SYSTEM MANAGEMENT (TOSM)
TOSM provides systems management, database management, operational support, and IT facilities management for both TTU and TTUHSC. TOSM houses the IBM Mainframe that hosts the core business systems of Texas Tech, including student, financial, human resources, payroll, and budget. TOSM also houses the Intel based server farm that hosts web interfaces to the mainframe systems as well as web based auxiliary systems. A major player in the ConnecTech project WWW.TEXASTECH.EDU/CONNECTECH, TOSM will play a key role as Texas Tech migrates all business systems from the mainframe to a server farm.
PROJECTS AND RESOURCES FOR INFORMATIONS SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (PRISM)
PRISM is a highly collaborative and fomal process developed by Texas Tech University System for project and resources portfolio management. It establishes policies and procedures for IT projects and provides for project and resource utilization, tracking, and scheduling.
