In order to continue to pursue the mission of Texas Tech University (“TTU”) as well as its ongoing growth and development, the Board of Regents (“Board”) formed the TTU President Search Committee (“Committee”).  The Committee is charged with the process of soliciting and screening candidates for the position of President of Texas Tech University.  To fulfill this charge, all members of the Committee have signed a Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreement that prohibits them from publicly identifying any person who is being considered for the position.

The Committee also is charged with submitting to the Board “one or more highly qualified candidates.”  The Board, with a recommendation from the Chancellor, will determine which finalist for the position will be publicly named.

Texas state law protects the identity of any applicant for the position of TTU President until such time as the applicant is named a finalist for the position.  The same state law requires that, for a president of a public higher education institution in Texas, public notice of the name of any finalist must be given at least 21 days before the date on which final action is taken to employ the person.

In selecting and announcing a finalist for TTU President, the Texas Tech University System will follow its past practice of the Chancellor and the Board reviewing the recommendations of the Committee and making a determination of which finalist will be publicly announced.  The announcement of one finalist is the practice used by the Texas Tech University System since 2003 for all president and chancellor searches, a process that also is followed by most other public university systems in Texas.

We appreciate the work being done by all of the people involved in this important process and are confident we will find the candidate that best fits the needs of Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech University System.
