Scott Lacefield

Executive Director of Media Relations and Communications

Scott Lacefield is the executive director of media relations and communications for the Office of the Chancellor at the Texas Tech University System.

He joined the TTU System Administration in 2017 as the senior director of the Office of Communications & Marketing and in 2019 was elevated to his current position.

Operations under Lacefield’s oversight include media requests for Chancellor Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., members of the Board of Regents, Vice Chancellors and TTU System Administration employees. He manages the media relations, crisis and strategic communications, social media and digital platforms of the TTU System. Lacefield also works collaboratively with the communication and marketing and executive leadership teams at the five component institutions of the TTU System, which includes Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and Midwestern State University.

Prior to joining the TTU System Administration, Lacefield served as the director of news and media relations in the Office of Communications & Marketing at Texas Tech University, where he oversaw and managed the office’s media relations, creative writing, video and day-to-day operations while working closely with the department’s social media and marketing teams.

Lacefield spent the first 11 years of his professional career in athletics communications at Texas Tech University (2010-15), The University of Texas at Arlington (2008-2010) and Seward County Community College (2004-08).

As an associate director in the Texas Tech Athletics Communications office, Lacefield managed the publicity efforts and social media content of the Red Raider baseball program for five seasons, which included Texas Tech’s first trip to the College World Series in 2014. The Red Raiders historic campaign included the program’s first NCAA Regional championship (Coral Gables) and NCAA Super Regional title (Lubbock).

He served as the secondary communications contact for the Texas Tech football program (2010-14) and was editor of the football gameday program. The Red Raiders made three bowl appearances — capturing three victories — in the TicketCity Bowl (2010), Texas Bowl (2012) and Holiday Bowl (2013) during that time.

Following the 2013 season, Lacefield and the Texas Tech athletics communications team were honored with the Football Writers’ Association of America Super 11 Award. The award honors the top 11 collegiate communications/public relations offices in the country. It marked the first time Texas Tech had received the national honor.

Lacefield came to Lubbock following two years at UT Arlington, where he was the sports information director (SID), oversaw publicity efforts for the Mavericks baseball and volleyball programs and served as the athletics department’s webmaster. He spent two years (2009-2010) working for Major League Baseball as a datacaster at Texas Rangers home games for MLB Advanced Media, providing live stats through the MLB Gameday application.

Lacefield began his career as the first SID at Seward County C.C., where he managed the publicity efforts and promoted seven nationally ranked athletics programs. He was responsible for the athletics department’s communications, marketing and promotions, gameday entertainment, annual fundraising initiatives and Saints Booster Club activities. In addition, he spent two years (2004-06) as an assistant baseball coach for the Seward County Saints baseball program and spent two years (2006-08) serving in alumni relations, along with his SID duties.

Originally from Greeley, Colorado, Lacefield was a baseball student-athlete while earning an associate’s degree from Seward County C.C. (2000) and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and public relations from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (2003). He also completed a master’s degree from East Central University (2004) in secondary education and sports administration.

Lacefield and his wife, Ashley, were married in 2004, and the couple has two daughters, Tegan and Jenny.
