Former Texas Tech Linebacker Honored
Quinton
Robinson has been recognized with the inaugural Heritage Award for his
distinguished career as athlete, coach and educator. Robinson was honored
during the 2005 Athletic Hall of Honor Induction ceremony at the Lubbock
Memorial Civic Center Nov. 4. The Heritage Award recognizes Red Raider letter
winners who achieve greatness beyond the playing field.
A former Texas Tech linebacker and three-year letter winner from 1970 to 1972, Robinson was an All-Southwest Conference second team linebacker his senior year, leading the Red Raiders to an 8-4 record and a Sun Bowl appearance. He was given the team’s Donny Anderson Sportsmanship Award following his senior year.
Robinson’s professional career as an educator and coach was recognized in June when the Fort Worth Independent School District named the new athletic complex at Trimble Tech High School in his honor. As head football coach at Trimble Tech, Robinson led the school to its first period of sustained success when the Bulldogs went to the playoffs seven straight years between 1983 and 1989.
Perhaps more importantly, Robinson touched the lives of his players
by setting high expectations of behavior and performance both on and
off the field. "It wasn't wins or losses, but how he affected lives," a
former player says. "His players came from single-parent homes or
homes with no fathers. They had nothing in terms of expectations. It
was his example, his high expectations for us."
