Shelton Green

Office of Governmental Relations
Senior Director for State Relations

Shelton Green serves as the senior director for state relations in the Office of Governmental Relations for the Texas Tech University System.

Green is responsible for coordinating with TTU System Administration and component institutions in their relationships with state entities and fostering relationships with state elected officials, staff and agencies to advance the TTU System and university's priorities in Austin.

He joined the TTU System following two years (2018-2020) as the manager of the Business and Economic Development team at the Legislative Budget Board in Austin. He advised the Texas House and Senate on budget and fiscal issues. He managed a team that was responsible for drafting portions of the General Appropriations Act and oversight of nearly 30 state agencies.

Green spent two years (2016-18) as the senior policy advisor for former Speaker of the House Joe Straus. He advised Speaker Straus and members of the Texas House on legislative, regulatory, and budget matters relating to general state policy, criminal justice, public safety, veterans affairs, border policy and social issues.

He also served two separate stints — totaling nine years — as a staff member in the Texas House. During this time, Green was chief of staff to Representatives Larry Taylor and Debbie Riddle and a legislative aide to Representative Terry Keel.

He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Schreiner College in Kerrville, Texas. Shelton and his wife, Heather, have three children: Everly, Sutton and Anderson.
