Dear Ram Fam,

I hope all of you are safe and sound during this time.

In late April, we launched a national search to find the next president of Angelo State University. I’m pleased to announce that we received more than 100 applications for the position by our June 15 deadline. The candidate pool is diverse and dynamic, including sitting deans, provosts, vice-presidents, and presidents from universities around the country, as well as many applicants from non-academic, executive leadership backgrounds.

Earlier this week, the search committee began the second phase of our work. We have carefully reviewed applications and will begin interviewing candidates soon. We intend to be thorough, intentional and considerate of applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life. Our goal is, as ever, to find the best leader possible for ASU―someone who can expand the university’s horizons and also embrace its culture and traditions. We aim to have our interviews completed over the summer, so that a new president may be selected and inaugurated by early fall. That said, the committee will take as much time as needed to find the right person for the role.

I appreciate the community’s help in bringing us so many talented and qualified individuals, and I thank you on behalf of the search committee, as well as the Texas Tech University System. Should you have any questions, suggestions or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out through the ASU Presidential Search email: ttus.angelostate.pressearch@ttu.edu.

My very best,

Mickey L. Long, '76
