Dear Texas Tech University System family,

I hope you are doing well and had an enjoyable holiday season.

I write today – from the Midwestern State University campus – to share that JuliAnn Mazachek, Ph.D., will be leaving her post as President of MSU Texas to become the next President of Washburn University.

As you know, Dr. Mazachek joined MSU Texas and our system family last spring following 30 years of service at Washburn. She has led MSU Texas with excellence, and I appreciate Dr. Mazachek’s contributions to our system and MSU Texas. I wish her and her husband, Keith, the best in their return to Topeka, Kansas.

While this news may be unexpected, we are fortunate to have a strong leadership team and university community at MSU Texas. To assist during the transition, I have asked Keith Lamb, Ph.D., vice president for enrollment management and student affairs and chief strategy officer at MSU Texas, to serve as interim president. Dr. Lamb has accepted the role, effective today, and will continue to serve the university in a dual appointment at this time.

Dr. Lamb is well-known and well-respected at MSU Texas, where he started his career in 1999.  During his two-decade-plus tenure, he has taught courses and served in a variety of leadership roles, including director of housing and residence life, associate vice president for student affairs, vice president for enrollment management and vice president for student affairs. I am tremendously grateful for his commitment to stepping into this leadership position and know he will keep MSU Texas moving forward.

In the coming weeks, I will be working closely with MSU Texas leadership and our Board of Regents to formalize the next steps for our presidential search process. MSU Texas is a thriving institution with incredible momentum and talented and dedicated faculty, staff, students and supporters. There is no doubt we can find the best talent – from near and far, with the qualifications and leadership attributes the Mustangs family desires and deserves – to lead MSU Texas.

I will share those details and timing with you once that information becomes available, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me.

Warmest regards,

Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D.
